"Fully licensed and insured"...Why is that important? Sugar Buzz!, LLC is a home-based business. I work out of a smoke-free and pet-free environment. An inspector from the VA Department of Agriculture thoroughly inspects my kitchen, just like they do for a store-front bakery. Sugar Buzz! is held to the same cleanliness, sanitation, and procedural standards as any other licensed food provider in Virginia. Most event venues require proof of business insurance before they can allow a cake to be delivered and served at their facility, and Sugar Buzz! can provide that documentation for them.
How do I make sure you are available for my event date? A specific date is not considered reserved for your event until a deposit has been received by Sugar Buzz!, LLC.
How much do you charge for a cake? This is a tricky one, and not because I am trying to be difficult. Sugar Buzz! cakes are custom creations. The size, complexity of design, type and number of decorations, and type of frosting all must be taken into account for pricing purposes. The starting price point for a filled cake with buttercream frosting and decorations is $3.00 per serving. The starting price point for a filled cake with fondant covering and decorations is $4.00 per serving. The minimum cake price is $75.
But I can pick up a cake from (insert big-box retailer's name of your choice) for around $35 ...!? Yes, you can. But here's why they are so inexpensive at that place.
Cake layers (white or chocolate only) were baked months ago in a huge factory, frozen, maybe covered with white "frosting", frozen again, then shipped several hundreds of miles to the location near you. The layers probably thawed out during the road trip, so they got re-frozen upon arrival at the store. The "bakery department" thawed it, covered it in white "frosting" if it didn't arrive that way, and froze it again. When they got a cake order, they thawed it again, then added on the standard borders, squiggles, and plastic decorations as dictated by their corporate procedure book. The "frosting" was also made months ago in a factory and has been in a 5-gallon plastic bucket ever since.
Take a good whiff the next time you are at that store's bakery department. It might smell like bread (if it's the day they bake the frozen bread dough), but I bet it doesn't smell like cake!
How much are cake truffles? The starting price point for truffles is $18.00 per dozen. The starting price point for truffles on sticks ("cake truffle pops") is $24 per dozen. The minimum order for cake truffles is $36.
What is fondant? How does it taste? Fondant is used to model/mold cake decorations or to cover the entire cake itself. It tastes similar to vanilla fudge. Check out the gallery photos - the Valentine Heart, Santa's Toy Bag, and Far East cakes are covered in fondant, and most of the cakes shown have some details modeled in fondant.
What flavors do you offer? The possibilities are endless, but here's a few ideas to get you started. If you want a flavor not listed, just ask!
